Tucson Attractions
There is plenty for visitors to see and do during their time in Tucson including a wide variety of different attractions that will appeal to people of all ages and tastes. The city is a well developed family tourist destination, and offers something for everyone, and there is easily enough to see and do in the city to keep you occupied for a couple of weeks, especially if you spend at least some of your time resting by the pool.
One of the main attractions in Tucson for tourists is the chance to visit Reid Park Zoo. This small animal collection is mainly concerned with conservation, and the zoo acts as a place that concentrates on providing refuge for precariously endangered animals that are at risk of extinction. The collection includes a number of fairly exotic mammals and reptiles and has a breeding program for reintroduction into the wild. Children will love the monkey enclosure, and the chance to ride one of the elephants.
The landscapes around Tucson have inspired artists for generations, and there are a number of galleries n the city that exhibit the paintings that have been made in the region. One of the best collections of Arizona art is to be found at the university. Aside from the works of well known artists such as Jackson Pollock and Leonardo da Vinci, the gallery also contains a wealth of pictures that have been painted in the area around Tucson. At Tucson Art World you can arrange a trip out into the desert with a local painter who will show you some of the best places to paint, and if your paintings are of a high enough standard they will be added to the extensive gallery.
If you are a person who enjoys looking at airplanes, then a day trip to the Davis Monthan Air Force base on the outside of town is a great idea. Arizona’s dry air and low rainfall means that the base has been treated as a place where planes can be stored safely until they are needed, and there are acres of used jets and older planes waiting on the tarmac to be used. Guests can tour the site by appointment only, and it is a truly fascinating sight to see B52s and other fighter jets sitting side by side in mile long rows.
